A 34-year-old woman, Anila Raveendran, was arrested in Kerala’s Kollam district for allegedly smuggling MDMA from Bengaluru, with authorities recovering a total of 90 grams of the synthetic drug from her possession. She was caught following a police chase involving the Sakthikulangara police and the Kollam City Police District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF).
According to officials, the police had attempted to stop her car near the Neendakara bridge, but she evaded them, leading to a pursuit. When authorities finally intercepted the vehicle, they found 50 grams of MDMA hidden in the car. A further medical examination revealed that she had concealed 40 grams inside her private parts.
Police sources said that Anila was transporting the contraband to supply it to students in Kollam city’s schools and colleges. She is a repeat offender and has been involved in a previous MDMA smuggling case. Law enforcement agencies are now conducting a detailed investigation into the drug’s source and her connections within the trafficking network.
Authorities have been tightening their crackdown on drug smuggling operations across Karnataka and Kerala. The case comes in the wake of a massive MDMA bust in Mangaluru, where police seized 37 kg of the drug worth ₹75 crore, marking Karnataka’s largest-ever drug haul. Investigations suggest that traffickers are using air routes between Delhi and Bengaluru to smuggle the substance.
MDMA, commonly known as "ecstasy", is a psychoactive drug that alters mood and perception, often used in party scenes. Law enforcement agencies across India have been actively working to disrupt the supply chains of such synthetic drugs, which have been increasingly targeting young users.
The arrest of Anila Raveendran highlights the growing concerns of drug trafficking in Kerala, particularly the rising trend of smuggling synthetic drugs through inter-state networks. Police have reiterated that they will continue strict enforcement actions to curb such illegal activities.
